Website designers were traditionally limited to a small group of fonts that could be rendered in HTML for Internet viewing. The most commonly used included: Helvetica, Arial, Times, Times New Roman and Verdana.
Thanks to Google, designers and clients can now safely choose from over 800 open source (free) fonts for website designing. The Google font website is extremely easy and intuitive to use. The interface features include a directory of all fonts categorized by Serif, Sans Serif, Display, Handwriting and Monospace. Fonts can be sorted by which are currently Trending, Popular, Date Added and Alphabetical as well as in by language. Sorting can be further refined based on the number of Styles for a particular font family as well as Thickness, Slant and width. These multiple filters allow for quickly zeroing in on available fonts for specific usages.
